Earth hour

It’s Earth Hour today. For those not familiar with it, it’s an annual international event first started in Australia (2007).

The idea is increase public awareness about the need to reduce energy consumption. People are asked to turn off the lights for an hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Last year, 126 countries participated.

I think it’s mostly symbolic, the hour won’t have any long term effects on the environment. Once the hour is over, people will proceed consuming as they did before. Sadly, it just a mass event.

Still I will support the Earth Hour. Don’t wanna be the only one)
